The Cavaliers vs Bulls was a one man show. Donovan Mitchell contributed to the Cavs’ 99 points and added 11 assists to the Cavs’ 71 points. This is the best result in the NBA since Wilt Chamberlain and his 100-point game.
Mitchell’s cosmic feat
The Bulls led for most of the game. They had a 21-point lead in the second quarter. Mitchell led to overtime, and the Cavaliers, buoyed by his good performance, turned out to be better in it and eventually won 145:134.
Mitchell made 22-of-34 from the field, including seven three-pointers. He also scored 20 times from the free-throw line. “It’s the best individual performance I’ve ever seen,” Cavs player Kevin Love later said.
Mitchell is the most prolific single-game scoring player since Kobe Bryant’s legendary 81-point performance against the Los Angeles Lakers against the Toronto Raptors in January 2006.
Mitchell’s score is also the eighth-highest in NBA history. Only Bryant, David Thompson (Nuggets vs. Pistons 73 points in April 1978) and Wilt Chamberlain (he did it five times, with the most 100 points in 1962) scored more points in one game.
“I always believed I could be one of the best players in the league. I feel delighted that I found myself in such an outstanding group – said Mitchell after the winning match.
The basketball player also received praise from Cleveland coach JB Bickerstaff. – We had the opportunity to see one of the best performances in the history of basketball. Donovan never put himself above the team, you can’t help rooting for him. I told everyone else to stay out of his way,” he said.
In terms of the number of points scored in one game, Mitchell became the record holder for the Cavs. The previous record – 57 points – belonged ex aequo to LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are fourth in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 24 wins and 14 losses. The Chicago Bulls are in 12th position with a record of 16 wins and 21 losses.
