Vice-President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) and a member of the executive committee of the organization Denis Solovyov spoke about the expectations from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) in connection with the possibility of moving to the Asian Confederation. His words are quoted by RB Sport.
Solovyov said that the RFU is waiting for certainty from UEFA. In his opinion, the union should give an official answer on Russia’s further participation in the competition. “As soon as they answer, you need to ask Asia. If we understand that we are leaving, we will need to figure it out, ”the RFU member emphasized.
On December 23, the RFU will hold a meeting of the executive committee, which will discuss the possibility of leaving UEFA and moving to the Asian Confederation. According to the “Championship”, UEFA opposes such an initiative of Russia.
Earlier, on December 23, it became known that UEFA will hold a tournament for youth teams in Russia in May 2023. It is noted that agreements on this were reached with the union a few months ago.
On February 28, UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Teams do not play in European competitions and other competitions under the auspices of the organization.
