Ten days before meeting in the Ecuadorian capital for the Quito Bicentennial Cup, Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud met forces this Thursday at the ATP Finals (Master) that takes place in Turin, Italy. The winner was the Spaniard by partials of 7-5, 7-5, in an hour and 42 minutes of the game.
Defeated in two sets by Fritz and later by Auger-Aliassime, Nadal no longer had anything to win in this tournament. But the Spaniard hates losing and is already working towards the 2023 season.
The Quito Bicentennial Cup awaits Rafael Nadal after the short participation in the ATP Finals. Casper Ruud advanced to the semifinals
For his part, Ruud was guaranteed his qualification after his two victories in his first two matches.
However, he conceded an eighth defeat in as many games against a member of the top 3, without ever managing to win a set against one of those players.
Against his idol Nadal he already conceded a resounding defeat by 6-3, 6-3 and 6-0 in the final of Roland Garros in spring.
This Thursday, on the fast Pala Alpitour court, Nadal was aggressive, with an effective serve (16 aces, 1 double fault).
After having saved two ‘break’ balls at 4-4, Nadal won the first set taking advantage of his first break ball of the sleeve.
The scenario was pretty much the same in the second set, but Nadal was imperial, conceding just three points during his games to Ruud. With a backhand cross, he ended the match by breaking Ruud’s serve.
Rafa will take a break for several days and then focus on the Latin American tour that includes Quito on Sunday, November 27.
Tickets for the match between Rafal Nadal and Casper Ruud in Quito can be purchased at Ticket Show, both at its points of sale and on its website.
