¯y³a should be disqualified?! “He was lucky. He must be careful”

After great jumps on 132.5 and 137 meters he took second place in Thursday’s competition in . In the opening competition of the 71st 4-Hills-Tournament he was only ahead of him.

Shortly after the competition, a screen from their transmission appeared on social media, which is to prove that Żyła should be disqualified.

Recently, Paweł Wąsek found himself in a similar, though not the same, situation. It took place in Engelberg. Our jumper was then disqualified.

– I heard that Piotrek had his overalls buttoned at the start and that the zipper opened later on his own – Agnieszka Baczkowska tells us.

This is confirmed by the screenshots from the broadcast.

It seems that the zipper remained fastened after Żyła landed, and it opened when the jumper was spontaneously happy.

But is this a mitigating circumstance? – If the controller noticed it or if someone reported it to him 15 minutes after the last jump of the competition, Żyła would be disqualified – Baczkowska has no doubts.

Zipper unfastened too early and without permission

Why? – To the exit gate [dmuchanej bramki, którą często widać w transmisjach i przez którą skoczkowie przechodzą po tym, jak już poznają swoją notę i miejsce w zawodach] you can’t do anything with the hardware. There you will receive information whether you are selected for inspection. The first six of the competition automatically goes to the control, so Piotrek knew that he would go and he should be careful – explains Baczkowska.

– Top 6 is a bit different, these players are usually not under full control, because there is no time for it. These jumpers are often allowed to take off their shoes, for example, because walking in them is burdensome for the legs. But if someone is bothered by the jumpsuit and wants to unzip it a bit, they have to ask about it first. My girls always ask if they can – explains the controller.

We do not know whether Żyła consciously opened his suit, or rather it happened spontaneously, during his joy after the jump. But Baczkowska emphasizes that since it happened without the consent of the controller, our jumper is very lucky that he was not disqualified and just did not lose in the 71st .

Kasai was just as lucky. At the Olympics

Interestingly, the case of Żyła is not the first of its kind. – At the Sochi Olympics in 2014, only a few hours after the competition, watching the replay, someone noticed that Noriaki Kasai was sitting on the beam with his overalls unbuttoned. And then nothing could be done about it, because you have only 15 minutes to react after the end of the competition – emphasizes Baczkowska.

Recall that in Sochi Kasai won the silver medal, losing on the large hill only to .

– Piotrek Żyła has to be very careful now. It is known that after the situation in Oberstdorf, everyone will pay more attention to him – concludes Baczkowska.
