Conte criticizes Tottenham’s early game in the draw against Brentford

This Monday, in the first game of the Premier League after the break for the World Cup, the Tottenham snatched a 2-2 draw against Brentford. After the match, coach Antonio Conte criticized the start of the Spurs, which saw the opponent open the scoring in the 15th minute, and issued a warning to the squad.

“For me, I think the second half of the game was very, very positive. We played with a lot of intensity, with the right desire to score and create difficulties for our opponents. But we have to admit, it’s maybe nine games in a row that we’ve started a game and conceded a goal. We left behind, started playing and recovered. I think we have to start from the first second, mentally strong, to play the way we did in the second half of the game until the end”, said the Italian coach.

Tottenham still saw Brentford open 2-0 nine minutes into the second half, but looked for the team to draw with goals from Harry Kane and Hojbjerg, at 20 and 26, respectively.

“I spoke with my players, because now this type of situation is becoming common. We did well in the recovery, in the end I thought we deserved to win the game, but we have to try to improve. It’s important to be stable at all times in the game, from start to finish. You know very well the difficulty of this championship. At the moment, United, Chelsea and Liverpool are out of the Champions League qualifying zone. That’s why we have to keep improving, work hard and focus on raising the level”, added Antonio Conte.

Tottenham returns to the field next Sunday, already in 2023, to face Aston Villa, at home, at 11 am (Brasília time), for the 18th round of the Premier League. At the moment, the London club is fourth on the leaderboard, with 30 points.
