Miguel Ángel Loor, president of the LigaPro, launched a strong sentence before the Council of Presidents began the vote that approved that clubs can register eight foreigners to reinforce their teams for the 2023 national championship.
In a brief intervention with the media at the entrance to the League headquarters, Loor stated: “I do not like the false patriotism of crying without knowing and analyzing things, simply because we imagine that Ecuadorians will not have space.”
Council of Presidents of Liga Pro approves the registration of 8 foreigners per team for the 2023 season
“Why does everything talk about having space out of obligation? Why not because you deserve it or you earned it? Things are like that”, added the leader, who has been in command of the organizing entity of the national tournament in series A and B for five years.

He also exposed, referring to the old rules of the Ecuadorian Football Federation, which was in charge of the championship: “Tell me what was good about letting the youth play compulsory. After removing that rule, Ecuador was champion of the South American U-20, third in the world under-20 and was the youngest team in the 2022 World Cup.
“If we want to talk about what happens in Europe, there they have a different reality, because they have players who act as community members; So, on that continent, everything can jump onto the field and it’s normal, ”he added.
“Here in South America it is different: we have talent that we have demonstrated, and all the economies in the countries are different. In Mexico, the strongest league in Latin America, due to the resources they have, they can sign ten; and in Germany, which is the most sustainable in the Old Continent, they have a free quota to register players not born in their country ”, he concluded.
The Council of Presidents, made up of representatives of the teams from the 16 institutions in Series A and 10 from Series B, approved increasing the registration of foreigners with 18 votes.
El Nacional, Orense and U. Católica, from A; and América de Quito and Manta FC, from B, were against the increase in places for players of other nationalities.
It was also known that the conformation of the lineups is totally free, so any team could show up to the matches with eight elements for the start of the matches. (D)
