Richarlison calls for people to get vaccinated

This Thursday morning, striker Richarlison wrote a letter on the website The Players Tribune and made people get vaccinated against the coronavirus. Ambassador of USP Vida, a program at the University of São Paulo, the player wanted to abandon aspects related to football and focused on encouraging immunization.

“I felt it was necessary to get this message across knowing that many people have not yet been vaccinated. Not because of a lack of immunization agents or because of a delay in the delivery of vaccines, but by choice. And that makes me worried. Really”, wrote the Brazilian national team striker.

“I have no doubt that the vaccine is reliable. But I see that there are still people on the back foot, even some athletes. A person who does not get vaccinated can affect the group of players and the club in general. And that goes for any area or profession”, he added.

Richarlison also spoke about his position on issues revolving around social media. According to him, at the moment he only hopes to be an influence on his followers.

“If I can influence a person to get vaccinated, I will already feel victorious for everything I tried to do during this period. It is a life that will be saved from this disease and many others around that will also benefit. The numbers prove it. In Brazil, deaths from the disease dropped by more than 90% after vaccination advanced. A few days ago, the country registered the lowest death rate since the beginning of the pandemic”, he declared.

Throughout the text, Richarlison still remembers the death of his first coach on account of covid-19. “A person who doesn’t get vaccinated can affect the group of players and the club in general. And that goes for any field or profession. One of them is Sebastião José da Silva, Tião Butterfly, who was my first coach there in Nova Venécia, when I was still just ‘Lamparina’. Butterfly called me that because he said that I cleared the game for my teammates. He was the first to notice a potential in me. And Butterfly said I had an adult mentality, he always encouraged me. I was very sad when I learned of his death. He was already a lord. He didn’t resist the disease”, recalled the athlete.

Finally, he reinforced the importance of the vaccine and told readers not to waste the opportunity to get immunized. “Do it for scientists and health professionals. For everyone who hasn’t had the same chance,” he wrote.

“Put the vaccine into the body right away and let’s run for the hug. I’ll see you in the stands, all vaccinated, protected and healthy to celebrate another goal of the Pigeon”, he concluded.
