The Premier League is back in full swing after the break from club football for the World Cup. This Monday afternoon, Bruno Guimarães’ Newcastle beat Leicester, away from home, by 3-0. Thus, the team continues in the vice-leadership of the competition.
With the result, Newcastle now has 33 points, in second place, and continues in the hunt for leader Arsenal, who have 37 and still have two games to play. Leicester, on the other hand, appears in 13th place, with 17 points conquered, four away from the relegation zone.
For the next round of the Premier League, Newcastle faces Leeds United, at home, at 12h (Brasília time) next Saturday. Leicester, in turn, will have a hard stop against Liverpool, at Anfield, at 5 pm on Friday.
The game
The visiting club resolved everything in the first half. Just 3 minutes into the game, Daniel Amartey committed a foul inside the area in Joelinton and the referee awarded the penalty. In charge, Chris Wood was good. Ball on one side, goalkeeper on the other and scoreboard inaugurated by Newcastle.
Even with the goal, the team did not stop attacking and managed to reach the second. Miguel Almirón dominated on the right, countered with Bruno Guimarães, passed between two scorers and finished with style to score a goal, in the 7th minute, still in the first stage.
Newcastle’s dominance continued and, in the 32nd minute, came the third. Trippier took a corner on the right side and the Brazilian Joelinton went up well to send a header and beat the goalkeeper, to close the first half score and seal the victory for the visiting team.
Other Premier League games
In another match played on Monday afternoon, Southampton received Brighton in their domains and ended up defeated by 3 to 1. Ward-Prose scored for the hosts, while Lallana, Ramain Perraud and Solly March gave the victory to the visiting team.
In another tough defeat for the home team, Crystal Palace received Fulham in a London duel and ended up easily defeated by 3-0. The goals were from Decordova-Reid, Tim Ream and Mitrovic.
Finally, Everton faced Wolverhampton in Liverpool and was another defeated home team. The score was 2 to 1. Yerri Mina, ex-Palmeiras, made the first for the home team, while Daniel Podence and Rayan Ait-Nourri.
