Los Tuzos del Pachuca, with winger Romario Ibarra and coach Guillermo Almada, advanced to the final of the Apertura 2022 Mexican soccer tournament after beating Rayados del Monterrey 1-0 on Sunday in the second leg of their semifinal played in the BBVA stadium.
Monterrey failed to win by three goals to bounce back from a 5-2 defeat in the first leg on Thursday.
In the first half, the Rayados had two dangerous approaches from the Argentine Rogelio Funes Mori that were resolved by goalkeeper Óscar Ustari: the first was a pumped shot at minute 14 and the second a shot from the front line of the area at minute 35.
Ustari saved the Tuzos again at 68 when he blocked a shot from the Argentine Germán Berterame inside the small area.
At 77, Pachuca was saved with another touch from Berterame inside the six-yard box that crashed into the right post.
Already in compensation time, Pachuca made it 1-0 with a penalty taken by the Colombian Avilés Hurtado with a shot to the left of the Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada that was launched to the opposite side.
In this way, Pachuca won the tie with an aggregate score of 6-2 and will face Toluca in the final.
On Saturday, the Diablos Rojos del Toluca, led by Jordan Sierra, drew 1-1 with the Águilas del América at the Azteca stadium and advanced to the final with an aggregate score of 3-2. (D)
