Arteta urges Arsenal to focus on Boxing Day

After a 44-day break to host the World Cup, the Premier League is the first of the major European championships to return, and it will be this Monday with its traditional and long-awaited Boxing Day, in which the leader Arsenal will face neighboring West Ham.

Leader with 37 points, five more than the first competitor (Manchester City), the ‘Gunners’ are already dreaming of the league title that they haven’t won since 2004.

But according to his coach, the Spaniard Mikel Arteta, Arsenal is not willing to give Christmas presents this Monday at 17h (Brasília time) to West Ham, which is 16th in the table.

“We are playing at home. Boxing Day is a very special game in the history of the championship, the family atmosphere is always incredible, we want to make the most of it, but above all we want to maintain our streak”, said the Basque coach.

His team have an impressive record of twelve wins, one draw and one defeat (in early September at Old Trafford).

“This second part of the season is going to be interesting and intense, we are really looking forward to starting again,” assured Arteta.

The 2022 World Cup caused casualties in the squad of the north London team: the Brazilian Gabriel Jesus, author of five goals and five assists in the Premier, injured his knee in Qatar and “it is very difficult to establish a date for his return”, recognized Arteta, who does not rule out the arrival of a reinforcement in the offensive sector during the January transfer window.

Even without Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal are clear favorites in this London duel: “It’s really very difficult to start again with a game like this”, acknowledged West Ham coach David Moyes, whose team added just 14 points in the first fifteen league games .
