“I was the best black, better than LeBron James and Michael Jordan,” says Delonte West, the NBA promise who fell into the abyss for his addictions | Other Sports | Sports

Delonte West came to the NBA in the 2004-05 season at the hands of the Boston Celtics (number 24 in the Draft), and although in his first season he already had to deal with injuries, he left a hint of the quality he had, reaching the average 12.2 points per game in his third season (his best scoring numbers).

Not only did she play for the Celtics, but she would later go through other franchises such as the extinct SuperSonics, the Cavaliers and the Mavericks, where she put an end to her career, not because of age, but because she was cut off due to her discipline problems. The beginning of the end for the basketball player, publishes daily ACE from Spain.

It was there that the problems began to arrive for a Delonte that does not raise its head. His addictions and mental health problems have led him to total disgrace, being arrested again (two arrests in two weeks). A new event that stains, even more, the image of a player who in February could already prepare a return to professional sport. A comeback that now stays away again.

As published by the US portal TMZ, the Fairfax County Police Department received a call about a drunk man on the street, and when officers arrived at the scene they found a “man lying next to a car with the door open.” A man who was Delonte West, and who was transferred to a hospital while he was charged with misdemeanor public intoxication.

A similar reason for which he was arrested just two weeks ago, when he was found begging at a traffic light located just a kilometer away from where he has now been arrested.

A long criminal record

But it is that they are not the first arrests that the former NBA player has suffered, who now lives on the street after having earned more than 16 million dollars in his career in the league. A league he was still playing in when he was arrested for having multiple firearms (2009). He was also fined by the NBA for sticking his finger in Gordon Hayward’s ear.

In fact, about his years in the league, the American came to confess that he was “the best black who has practiced any sport. I was better than LeBron James and better than Michael Jordan.” And, speaking of LeBron, it was also rumored in 2010 that he had been in a relationship with the mother of the now Lakers player, Gloria James.

A series of incidents that he was able to park this same February, when he seemed to have overcome his problems thanks, in part, to the constant help of Mark Cuban, American businessman and owner of the Mavericks, although it has not been enough to ‘resurrect’ a player out of favor. (D)
