Russian gymnast Angelina Melnikova in an interview with “Lente.ru” commented on the incident at the World Championships, as a result of which she was deprived of victory in floor exercise.
“Everyone saw what happened, we were simply late in filing a protest. According to the rules, this is only four minutes. Perhaps, if they did, the outcome would have been different. So it’s more annoying to me that we didn’t even try to compete for the grade. It would be less offensive if we had time, but the protest was rejected, ”the Russian woman revealed the details.
The athlete added that she has a good relationship with the winning Japanese Mai Murakami. “Before the award ceremony, we talked, we have no complaints about each other. She supported me. And first, I saw her when I saw that she was second, ”said the gymnast.
On October 24, Melnikova won silver in floor exercises at the World Cup. Murakami became the winner. At the same time, the judges initially put her in second place, but the Japanese national team filed a protest, as a result of which Murakami received 0.1 points.
Melnikova is the silver medalist of the 2016 Olympics in the team all-around, the 2020 Olympic champion in the same program, as well as the owner of the bronze medal in the individual championship and in floor exercise. At the World Championships held in October 2021, the Russian woman became the absolute world champion.
