In September this year, Maja Chwalińska (161st WTA) announced that she underwent surgery on her right knee. The player was to be sidelined for at least three months. If everything goes according to plan, I will be back to competing in about three months.
Maja Chwalińska will not play in the Australian Open
Unfortunately for the player and her fans, not everything went according to plan. Her rehabilitation continues. As a result, it is already known that Maja Chwalińska will not be able to play in the first Grand Slam tournament next year – the Australian Open.
– Dear fans. As you probably know, at the end of September, I underwent knee surgery. Unfortunately, rehabilitation and return to the court are not going as fast as I initially expected. I don’t feel 100% ready to compete in tournaments yet. As a result, I have decided not to participate in the Australian Open in January. I also decided to take advantage of the ranking freeze. I will return to the game at the end of February. Thank you for your support – wrote Maja Chwalińska on Facebook.
Chwalińska delighted Polish fans during this year’s Wimbledon. The 21-year-old tennis player successfully made it through the qualifications, beating 3:6, 6:3, 6:4 in the decisive clash two-time quarterfinalist of the event, the American Coco Vandeweghe (129th WTA). Thus, for the first time in her career, the Polish woman advanced to the main ladder of the Grand Slam tournament. In the next match, the Polish tennis player, after a three-set fight, had to recognize the superiority of the American Alison Riske-Amritraj (41st WTA) and lost 6:3, 1:6, 0:6. –
After the struggle in London, the Polish woman was close to another success in the challenger in Romanian Iasi, where she reached the semi-finals. Her last appearance was the participation in the US Open qualifiers. Chwalińska failed to repeat her Wimbledon success and won only one match. In the second round of qualifications she lost to Russian Elina Avanesyan (154th WTA) 6:4, 1:6, 4:6.
There are two Polish women in the Australian Open: the best tennis player in the world and the leader of the world ranking – Iga ¦wiątek and Magda Linette (48th WTA). Magdalena Fręch (106th WTA), Katarzyna Kawa (245th WTA) and Weronika Falkowska (247th WTA) also have a chance to perform in Melbourne.
