Tatyana Tarasova proposed to single out same-sex duets in figure skating as a special event
Honored coach of the USSR in figure skating Tatyana Tarasova appreciated the idea of the Canadian Figure Skating Federation (Skate Canada) to allow athletes to perform in same-sex duets at tournaments. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
“There is no laughing stock in this. But I do not propose such an idea for our figure skating. And there are so many questions about technology, ”said Tarasova. She proposed to single out such duets in a special category of figure skating.
Earlier Tuesday, December 13, Skate Canada allowed same-sex skaters to form pairs and dance duets at national tournaments. “This change will in many ways push the sport forward through the creation of exciting new programs,” said three-time Olympic ice dance champion Scott Moir.
It is noted that the changes apply only to domestic Canadian competitions. Tournaments under the auspices of the International Skating Union will be held according to generally accepted rules.
