According to a press release from the Decentralized Autonomous Government (GAD) of La Libertad, the jurisdiction will host “for the first time in history (…) an international sporting event” of this type. The meeting point, the Captive beach.
The contest will be played from November 2 to 6.
How was it possible for Conmebol to pay attention to La Libertad for the realization of this event? That was the query that this newspaper made to the head of tourism of the respective peninsular GAD, Jefferson Cruz, who responded by telephone: “At the beginning of the year, the beach soccer development department of the Ecuadorian Football Federation visited the canton. First, they wanted to hold a cantonal tournament to promote activity. They really liked Captive. Little by little the idea of an event was consolidated. The FEF, then, told us that it had an international event, for which we had to meet the requirements. We work on the necessary steps: we build a sports arenaWe obtained resources through council sessions, we signed agreements… Conmebol invests $200,000 and the Municipality $89,000. The Federation saw in us a responsible administration before everything requested. Everything was done on time and now we are proud that this event is taking place in La Libertad, a small canton, which is not one of the main cities in the country”.
There will be two categories in dispute, the absolute and the sub-20.
The tournament is part of the division Conmebol evolution, which, according to the website of the rector of South American football, has five axes: infrastructure, skills, training, subsidies, and administration and governance. These, both in soccer and beach soccer, women’s soccer and futsal. (D)
