Matheus Cunha approaches agreement and should leave Atlético de Madrid for Wolverhampton

Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha is close to an agreement to defend Wolverhampton, from England, from January 2023. The terms of the transfer with Atlético de Madrid include a loan with an obligation to purchase, in a clause stipulated between 40 and 50 million of euros (almost R$ 300 million).

The information of the hit was disclosed by the journalist Fabrizio Romano, specialist in news about the football market. The clubs are already preparing the documents to announce the deal in the coming days.

Matheus Cunha was down at Atlético de Madrid and was being little used by coach Diego Simeone. In 17 games this season, he has provided two assists and not scored a single goal.

The performance below expectations, added to the growth of competitors such as Morata, Ángel Correa and Griezmann, also caused the striker to lose space in the Brazilian national team and be left out of the list of summoned by Tite for the World Cup in Qatar.

The change of scenery can be beneficial to the player, but it does not promise ease. Wolverhampton occupies the 20th and last position of the English Championship and seeks to reverse the scenario in the national league. Cunha’s name, therefore, is seen favorably to improve an attack that has only eight goals scored in the competition.

The Brazilian was revealed by Coritiba, but did not even play professionally for the club and was traded to Sion, from Switzerland. He still went through RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin, Germany, before standing out in winning Olympic gold in 2020 and landing at Atlético de Madrid.
