Star Bryce Harper hit the game-winning home run in the eighth inning and the Philadelphia Phillies advanced to the World Series on Sunday with a 4-3 victory over the San Diego Padres.

The Phillies reached the Major League Baseball playoff championship final for the first time in 13 years by defeating the Padres 4-1 in the best-of-seven NLCS.

“We’re going to celebrate,” said Rhys Hoskins, who hit four home runs for the Phillies in the series.

“We still have work to do, but National League champions, what a beautiful thing,” he added.

Catcher JT Realmuto led off the inning with a single off Venezuelan reliever Robert Suárez and Harper connected hard to cause a frenzy in the 45,485 spectators.

Harper was elected MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the series.

“We always believed,” Harper said. “There was no emotion that it wasn’t going to happen, that we weren’t going to have this opportunity to be here.

“We have four more (games to win for the title). We are going to get it,” she added.

The Phillies will open the MLB best-of-seven final on Friday away from home against either the Houston Astros or the New York Yankees, who are fighting for the American League championship.

Philadelphia’s ninth knew that ending the series today would give them a chance to reach the Fall Classic for the first time since 2009, when they lost to the New York Yankees.

The Phillies entered the playoff party as the last invitees in the ‘Old Circuit’ and finally titled themselves in the National League.

His last MLB crown was won against the Tampa Bay Rays (2018)

Opposite, the Padres extended their losing streak as they haven’t reached the World Series since being swept by the New York Yankees in 1998. (D)
