With Antony decisive, Ajax beats Dortmund and guarantees classification in the Champions League

Ajax’s perfect Champions League campaign continues. For the fourth round of the tournament’s group stage, the Dutch team beat Borussia Dortmund by 3-1, at Signal Iduna Park, this Wednesday and guaranteed early classification to the round of 16.

To triumph away from home, Ajax had a decisive performance by Brazilian Antony, ex-São Paulo. The 21-year-old caused Mats Hummels to be sent off in the 28th minute of the first half, after performing a great heel dribble, and participated in the three Dutch goals.

Hummels’ expulsion generated a lot of complaints from the owners of the house, but it didn’t stop Dortmund from opening the scoreboard. On 36 minutes, Marco Reus converted a penalty suffered by Jude Bellingham and left the German club ahead.

With one more, Ajax launched their attack in the second half. Even not managing to be so dominant, the team led by Erik ten Hag sought a draw with Tadic, who took advantage of Antony’s cross from the right, deflected by the marking, to complete the second post.

After the goal, Ajax took off. In a move similar to that of the first goal, Antony swung up from the mark on the right, fixed it to his left foot and crossed to the area, where Haller headed in at 37 to score for the seventh time in four games in this Champions League.

In additions, another assist from Antony. The Brazilian received a great launch from the right, entered the area and rolled in the measure for Davy Klaasesen to give final numbers to the game.

With the victory, Ajax reached 12 points and appears in the isolated leadership of Group C of the Champions League. Borussia Dortmund, in turn, has six points and occupies the third position.

Sporting beat Besiktas

In the other game of Group C, Sporting thrashed Besiktas, from Turkey, by 4-0 this Wednesday, at José Alvalade. Pedro Gonçalves, twice, Paulinho and Pablo Sarabia scored for the Portuguese team. In the final stretch, the Brazilian Souza was sent off and left the Turkish team at a disadvantage.

With six points, Sporting is the vice-leader of Group C. Besiktas, on the other hand, has not yet scored and remains in the light.
