Olympic champion Bjoerndalen called the lack of competition in the world of cross-country skiing a disaster
Eight-time Olympic biathlon champion Ole Einar Bjoerndalen has criticized the current development of world cross-country skiing. His words are quoted by Expressen.
Bjoerndalen called the lack of competition in cross-country skiing a disaster. “I am not sure that the International Ski Federation (FIS) is making the same contribution as the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and I hope that they will come to ensure that more countries receive sufficient support. It is no coincidence that the IBU and biathlon are where they are now. For years they have supported weaker countries and continue to do so,” he said.
In the six races that took place at the second stage of the World Cup in Lillehammer, the Norwegians won 11 out of 18 possible awards. In the men’s ten kilometers freestyle race, the Norwegians took the entire podium, in total, nine representatives of this country entered the top 10.
In March, the Norwegian Ski Federation suspended the Russians from participating in tournaments under its auspices. The FIS later extended this measure to all international competitions it organizes.
