30,000 vaccines against COVID-19 delivered by Conmebol to the government of Paraguay

With this delivery, the country totals 38,000 doses received by the governing body of South American football.

The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) delivered to the Government of Paraguay on Wednesday a batch of 30,000 vaccines against COVID-19 from the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac to help strengthen the inoculation campaign against this disease in the South American country.

This was reported by the Paraguayan Ministry of Health in a statement detailing that the Minister of Health, Julio Borba, was present during the official handover; the president of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez; and the president of Conmebol, Paraguayan Alejandro Domínguez.

With this delivery, the country totals 38,000 doses received by the governing body of South American football.

According to the text of the Health portfolio, Domínguez emphasized that Conmebol unanimously decided to deliver these 30,000 vaccines to Paraguay to help fight the pandemic in this country.

“Something soccer teaches us is that, to win a game, you have to have a team; second, a strategy; and third the conquest, for which we have to be in solidarity, work together, and that is what we came to do today: to be a drop of help in this fight against the rival who does not give us rest, comes back and comes back, but what if we play together we can beat him ”, said Domínguez.

For his part, Borba pointed out that in Paraguay a significant percentage of its target population has already been covered and that, although the Ministry has already managed to bring “seven vaccine platforms this year” 4.5 million must still arrive and by 2022 they already have 12 insured million doses.

For the minister, the cooperation of Conmebol is a sign that Paraguay is a reliable country to administer vaccines to its population.

Last Friday it was reported that 2,351,214 people have completed the vaccination scheme in Paraguay with Sputnik, Pfizer and AstraZeneca and nearly 700,000 people already have at least one dose.

According to the figures managed by the health authorities, 1,013,489 people are missing to reach the target population of 80% with complete immunization, so the head of the Expanded Immunization Plan (PAI), Héctor Castro, called the Paraguayans to convince their loved ones to “lose their fear”, since, he said, “the absolute risk is to be without a vaccine”.

The person in charge of the EPI also affirmed that 8,754 people have received a booster dose.

Since last week, Paraguay has been administering a booster dose to health personnel and to the strip of citizens over 50 years of age who completed the vaccination schedule until the end of last April.

Recipients of Covaxin, HayatVax, Coronavac and Sinopharm began to receive AstraZeneca, while those who have two doses of AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna and Sputnik V and one of Janssen add Pfizer as a booster. (D)
