Arsenal announce promotion of Edu Gaspar to sporting director of the club

This Friday, the Arsenal announced the promotion of Edu Gaspar to the club’s sporting director. The Brazilian, who until then was technical coordinator, will be the first to exercise the function in the history of the association.

“I am delighted to have this new role which I see as an evolution and consolidation of the way we have been working. We are making good progress in all areas of our men’s, women’s and academia and we are all excited about what can be achieved “, said Edu Gaspar to Arsenal’s official website.

“I look forward to building on the hard work of so many people and helping us all to grow together and become more successful, and I am grateful for the trust the club has placed in me. We move forward together.”

The promotion comes amid Arsenal’s good form on the pitch. The team leads the Premier League with 37 points after 14 games, five more than Manchester City. The team also qualified for the round of 16 of the Europa League but, on the other hand, fell in the English League Cup in the third phase after losing to Brighton by 3-1.

It is worth remembering that Edu Gaspar was an Arsenal player and was even part of the team that won the English Championship undefeated in the 2003/04 season. In all, he made 127 appearances, with 15 goals scored and six assists for the club.

As a manager, Edu Gaspar started at Corinthians, where he stayed from 2011 to 2016, a period in which Timão won Libertadores and Club World Cup, in addition to other titles. Afterwards, he joined Tite in the Brazilian national team and, in 2019, left the CBF to be technical coordinator at Arsenal.
