Manchester United must terminate Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract, says Gary Neville

Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with Manchester United must be rescinded in the coming days after the numerous criticisms that the Portuguese made to the English club in an interview, according to former team captain Gary Neville, on Thursday.

“I don’t think he wants to come back,” Neville explained to Sky Sports. “I wouldn’t have given that interview if I wanted to come back,” he added.

“I knew it would make big headlines and mark the end of his Manchester United career,” said the former England international for the ‘Red Devils’.

Ronaldo, who returned to United in August 2021 and has a contract for another six months, made controversial statements about the Glazer family, owners of the club, and questioned his management and lack of sporting ambition.

The Manchester team was left out of the Champions League after finishing the last season of the English Championship in sixth place, and, even with 24 goals from the Portuguese in all competitions in 2021/22, saw Ronaldo decrease his performance in the current season, passing to the bench and playing very little.

“I wonder what Manchester United are doing because the reality is they know they need to terminate Cristiano’s contract or set a precedent so that no player can criticize them in the future,” Neville added.

“I agree with some of the things Cristiano said and a lot of Manchester United fans will agree with a lot of the things Cristiano said. But the truth is if you are an employee of a company and you say those kinds of things, your job must be done and the Manchester United should do it in the coming days”, he evaluated about the former teammate between 2003 and 2009.
