Iran’s coach slams World Cup team exit with ‘sometimes football is unfair’

Iran coach Carlos Queiroz after US defeat: sometimes football is unfair

The head coach of the Iranian national football team Carlos Queiroz commented on the departure of the team from the 2022 World Cup after the defeat in the match with the United States. His words are quoted by ESPN.

“In the second half we got the ball and created more chances than the USA did in the first. We deserved to score at least a goal, ”said the specialist. He assessed the outcome of the meeting with the phrase “sometimes football is unfair” and added that the Iranians managed to win the respect of the whole world.

On November 29, the Iranian national team lost to the US team in the final round of the group stage of the World Cup. The game ended with the score 0:1. The only goal in the 38th minute was scored by midfielder Christian Pulisic. The Americans, thanks to this victory, overtook the Iranians in the Group B table and advanced to the playoffs of the tournament.

Earlier, the Iranian Football Federation demanded to remove the United States from the World Cup due to a distorted image of the flag. According to a Guardian source, Iran was unhappy with the fact that the press service of the US team posted on social networks a picture of the Iranian flag without the emblem of the Islamic Republic on it.
