Figure skater Maria Sotskova says doping suspension has completely changed her life
Russian figure skater Maria Sotskova spoke about life after being suspended for doping. Her words are quoted by Match TV.
The athlete said that the disqualification completely changed her life. “I can’t go through the training process with active athletes, I can’t compete, train and participate in state-funded sporting events. The world of figure skating closed the doors for me,” she shared.
In March 2021, Sotskova was banned for ten years for an anti-doping rule violation. The Russian woman was convicted of using the banned drug furosemide, as well as forgery of documents. The punishment was imposed on the basis of the decision of August 2020, when Sotskova was found guilty of falsifying a medical certificate and skipping doping tests.
Sotskova won the silver of the Grand Prix final of the 2017/2018 season. The athlete also has silver and bronze medals at the Russian Championships. At the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, the Russian woman took eighth place. The figure skater ended her career in the summer of 2020.
