Chimboracense Felipe Rivadeneira was the figure of the II Grade 1 National Tournament that is part of the Ecuadorian Tennis Circuit 2022, when he was crowned champion in the 16 and 18-year-old singles categories and achieved the vice-championship in doubles 18-year-olds.
The tournament, which was attended by 171 youth players from 12 provinces of the country, was played on the 16 clay courts of the Quito Tennis & Golf Club from October 2 to 9.
Rivadeneira achieved a perfect participation by not losing any set in both categories. In the 16-year-old final, as the tournament’s 5th seed, he defeated Ernesto Pico, the 1st seed, from Manabita by a score of 6-1, 6-0. While in the 18-year-old category he beat José Pérez from Pichinchano by a double 6-4.
In the 18-year-old doubles final, together with José Pérez, they lost in a closely contested match 6-3, 4-6, (8-10) against the locals Andrés Pérez and Alfredo Gallegos.
Fernando González, in 12 singles years, won the final against his compatriot Claudio Tenicela 6-2, 6-1. In women, Estefanía Novoa from Guayas defeated Rafaella Bernal from Pichinchana 6-3, 6-2.
In 14 male years, Emilio Camacho (Pichincha) won the final after Jaime Ortiz from Guayas was disqualified when the match was 1-6, 6-3, 1-0. In women, Ana Játiva from Guayas defeated Viktoria Momge, 6-4, 6-2.
In 16 years ladies, Kristel Játiva (Guayas) defeated María Victoria Robles (Manabí) by a double 7-5. In 18 years ladies, Carolina Guerrero (Guayas) beat Andrea Robles (Manabí) 6-2, 6-1.
The tournament supervisor, Eduardo Aravena, confirmed that players from categories 12, 14, 16 and 18 years old gathered during the eight days of games; and, in the total computation, 16 events were added, playing 304 matches between singles and doubles.
One of the most anticipated competitions on the Ecuadorian Tennis Circuit is the FET Cup Absolute National Championship, which brings together the 16 best tennis players in the categories 12, 14, 16 and 18 years, ladies and men. The event will take place from October 17 to 21 in the Annex of the Guayaquil Tennis Club of Samborondón.
