In Russia, it was considered illegal to suspend membership in the International Paralympic Committee
In Russia, it was considered illegal to suspend the country’s membership in the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). This was reported on the official website of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RCC).
The RPC explained that the IPC has not provided any evidence that Russia is not fulfilling its membership obligations. The Russian side intends to apply to the United Nations and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to protect the rights of Paralympic athletes.
Earlier on November 16, the IPC suspended the membership of Russia and Belarus. It was clarified that 64 members of the organization voted for this proposal, 39 – against, 16 more countries abstained.
On March 3, the IPC refused to allow Russian athletes to compete at the 2022 Games. Initially, domestic athletes were allowed to perform in a neutral status, but then the decision was changed. The head of the organization, Andrew Parsons, explained this by the position of other national committees, which opposed the participation of the Russian team in the Paralympics.
