The biggest surprise in Michniewicz’s frame. “My tongue is wrapped in my throat”

– Take it easy, we won’t collect that much – when he spoke about the wide list appointed for the World Cup. Ultimately, it did not turn out to be that wide, because the selector did not use the limit. He appointed not 55 but 47 players, and their names were officially presented on Thursday – in Zakopane -.

On Thursday, Michniewicz got straight to the point. He did not stand on stage for a long time. After a short introduction by the team spokesman Jakub Kwiatkowski, the coach looked at the notes and quickly read the names of all the players – starting with five goalkeepers – who were among the appointed. – If I had to select 26 players who will fly to Qatar today, I would not have a problem with that. But there are three more weeks left, so let’s wait – emphasized Michniewicz, who has until November 10 to send the final list to FIFA.

The biggest surprise in Michniewicz’s team

Originally, Thursday’s list was supposed to be shorter by a few names, but the selector recently decided to extend it. First of all, about the players from the Polish league, because there are as many as seven players from the league. Including Patryk Dziczek, midfielder of Piast Gliwice, whom Michniewicz knows perfectly well from the youth team and whom he even wanted to bring to Legia a year ago, when he was still working in the Warsaw club.

– I talked to Dziczek earlier, he was prepared for it – said Michniewicz on Thursday. And he explained why Piast’s midfielder was now in the team: – He has been through a lot recently, but I see determination and potential in him. Even if he fails to board the plane to Qatar, although I am not prejudging anything, he is a competitor who needs a positive impulse. I believe that this is the future of the Polish team. A game in a critical position, about which a lot has been discussed recently, i.e. in the middle of the field, where Grzegorz Krychowiak plays. There is not much choice there, and Patryk gives this choice. It can increase competition. In the future, to become a footballer who will play at a very high level in the national team.

Dziczek suddenly fainted and fell on the grass. Dramatic scenes

In the context of Dziczka, Michniewicz talked more about the future on Thursday, but the past still lingers behind the 24-year-old. This one is gloomy, because the Piast midfielder did not play football for a year and a half. He did not play sports at all for a long time. But maybe let’s start from the beginning, i.e. let’s go back to August 2019, when Dziczek moved from Piast to Lazio, from where he was immediately loaned to the second-tier Salernitana. In Serie B, he could count on playing regularly and it looked as though his career would take off. However, the events of February 2021 changed everything.

His teammates and staff members immediately rushed to Dziczek to help. The footballer was transported to the hospital during the match. There, he underwent a thorough examination, which showed nothing disturbing. Again, because it was unfortunately not the first time. Dziczek also lost consciousness six months earlier – during Salernitana’s training.

– It was around 4 p.m., we had classes. Warm-up, some tactics, we practiced passing, and at the end we played six times for six minutes. We started the fourth series. I handed the ball to my friend, took a step forward and fell. I was completely unconscious. Our doctor had to intervene quickly because I couldn’t breathe. He must have pulled his tongue out of my mouth because it curled up in my throat. It was not easy, because I was clenching my jaw, but fortunately our doctor knew what to do, he reacted very quickly and helped me. When he stuck his tongue out, I woke up. It was hard for me to breathe, but I was already aware – said Dziczek a month later in an interview with “”.

Dziczek: I will not count how many cardiologists I have been to

Dziczek then spent a week in the hospital. – I was diagnosed in detail, I had head MRI twice, ECG of the heart, they took my blood regularly. I think I did more tests in a week than in my entire life. They checked my health very carefully, but ultimately found no cause for my fainting. I heard that maybe I ate my meal too early and my heart started pumping blood faster around my body, he recalled.

After two weeks, he returned to training, but those events – despite the doctors’ unclear diagnosis – were unfortunately the first sign that something disturbing was happening with his health. The second was six months later – during the aforementioned match against Ascoli, after which Dziczek did not play any more in Italy. Instead of showing up on the field, he visited more doctors’ offices. Not only in Poland and Italy – the rules on football research have become stricter – but also in Qatar, where Dziczek flew in June to meet Guido Pieles. A world authority in the field of cardiology and the chief of medical staff during the upcoming World Cup.

– We did all the tests, it came out positive. The doctor was even surprised how well the stress test performed. According to him, there were no contraindications for me to play football, Dziczek recalled his visit to Qatar in his September interview with “”. It was his first such a large interview in many months. “I didn’t want to speak sooner until I knew 100 percent what would happen next,” explained the 24-year-old midfielder.

Today Dziczek argues that he is now healthy. Although he still hasn’t got a definite diagnosis, doctors say he passed out twice, possibly due to complications from myocarditis or washing away electrolytes from his body. And that it was not epilepsy at all, as previously reported in the media.

“I really don’t feel like talking about it anymore”

Since August Dziczek has been a Piast player again. He returned to Gliwice after three years. And finally he started playing. A few days after signing the contract, he entered at the end of the match with Miedzia Legnica (2: 1). In the fall – after a break of one and a half years – he played eight games. Last Tuesday – against Stal Mielec in the Polish Cup, where he ran for 120 minutes, because Piast won 3-0 only after extra time.

Today Dziczek argues that everything is fine with him. However, he has to undergo routine checkups every three months. And although he himself is not worried about his health, his relatives are worried about it all the time. – My wife, Patrycja, asks me to send an SMS after training that I am already in the locker room. To this day, my mother is terrified when I go out to training and a match. She calls every day, asks how I feel. Of course, I understand her, she worries about me and does it with a good heart, but at times it is irritating, because this topic has been dragging on me for the last year and a half. I really don’t want to talk about it anymore – Dziczek recently cut short in an interview with Przegląd Sportowy.
