With Haaland’s ‘Law of the Ex’, City turn on Dortmund in the Champions League

This Wednesday, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund faced each other in the second round of the group stage of Champions League. At the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s team trailed after Bellingham’s goal, but John Stones and former Germany player Erling Haaland secured the comeback and triumphed 2-1.

With the result, the English lead Group G, with six points. Dortmund are in second place, with three

In the next round, which will be played after the FIFA Date, Manchester City will host Copenhagen, on October 5, at 4 pm (GMT). Borussia Dortmund, in turn, visit Sevilla, on the same day and time.

The match between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund

Pep Guardiola started Manchester City with: Ederson; Ake, Akanji and Stones; Cancelo, Gundogan (Bernardo Silva), Rodri and De Bruyne; Mahrez (Julián Álvarez), Haaland and Grealish (Foden).

Edin Terzic started Borussia Dortmund with: Meyer; Meunier, Sule, Hummels and Raphael Guerreiro; Ozcan, Emre Can, Reus, Bellingham and Reyna (Malen); Modest (Schlotterbeck).

The first half had little movement and scoring chances for both sides. The English had 64% possession of the ball, but they finished only four times, none on target, while the Germans shot just once, without much work for Ederson.

In the second half, Dortmund had a great chance to open the scoring in the seventh minute. Reus received inside the area in depth, dribbled Akanji and, face to face with Ederson, ended up submitting it outside.

At 11, Edin Terzic’s team opened the scoring. Reus took the remainder in the area and raised for Jude Bellingham to anticipate the mark and head into the back of the net.

City managed to equalize in the 34th minute. John Stones hit hard from outside the area and swelled the nets.

And the turning point came four minutes later. João Cancelo crossed with three fingers and Haaland, to enforce the “law of the ex”, gave the ball a “fly” and sent it into the goal.

Copenhagen vs Seville

Also this Wednesday, in the other game of group G, Copenhagen and Sevilla faced each other in Denmark. The match ended in a 0-0 tie.

With the result, the teams added the first point in the competition. The Danes are in third place, and the Spaniards in the bottom.
