This Sunday, the Ecuadorian Jordy Caicedo’s Tigres UANL host Santos Laguna, in a Mexican league match that marks the return to the playing fields of the former CSKA-Sofia scorer after serving a suspension date.
Caicedo saw the red card in the 71st minute of the game on the sixth date of the Apertura 2022 tournament against Querétaro, ten minutes after he entered the variant for Igor Lichnovsky, a period in which he also scored his first goal with the felines at 66 .
Tigres appealed the Ecuadorian international’s red card, but in the end it did not proceed and the striker was suspended for matchday 7 against Pachuca, a match played last Sunday.
The former striker for the Bulgarian team CSKA-Sofía, despite his absence against Pachuca, continued with his process of adaptation to the club and Mexican football and can now be considered by coach Miguel Herrera for the commitment to Santos.
At the end of Wednesday morning training, Caicedo spoke to the media about his first goal with Tigres and the Mexican arbitration.
“Yes, the truth was something bittersweet, but the happiness that comes from scoring the goal that gives the team the three points is something very satisfying (…) It motivates me to continue working because we are close to the next game and I will be able to play, We are also close to the Clásico (vs. Rayados de Monterrey, date 10) and I am focused on being there and helping the team as much as I can”, said the Tricolor soccer player.
The one from Machala is not yet a starter for DT Miguel Herrera; the owner of the center forward position is the Frenchman André-Pierre Gignac. The other quotas are held by the Uruguayan Nicolás López and the Colombian Luis Quiñones.
Even so, the Ecuadorian has remarked before the media that he came to Mexico to play “all the games”.
“I would like to play the classic and all the games. I came here to try to contribute and I train 100% every day to play every game”.
Asked about arbitration in Mexican soccer, he said: “Yes, it is a little more demanding than in other leagues that I have played. Here they see everything and the minimum is red. In other leagues I’ve been they let you play a little more. But hey, I’ll try to adapt as quickly as possible to this.”
Until now, Jordy Caicedo has been a substitute and has entered the substitution in four games of the Apertura tournament and accumulates 88 minutes of play. The attacker of the Tigers aspires to be summoned by the coach Gustavo Alfaro to go to the World Cup in Qatar. (D)
