ISSF postponed 2023 World Shooting Championship from Russia to Azerbaijan
The Executive Committee of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) has decided to change the host nation of the 2023 Shooting World Championship. This was reported on the website of the organization.
The tournament has been moved from Russia to Azerbaijan. It is expected that it will be held from 14 to 31 August 2023 in Baku.
On March 7, the ISSF Executive Committee suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international tournaments until further notice. At the same time, Russia lost the right to host the European Championship in bullet and clay shooting in 2022.
At the end of February, many international sports organizations stopped allowing Russians to compete on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In motorsport, cycling, tennis and chess, Russians continue to perform in a neutral status. However, in most sports, domestic athletes are completely excluded.
