Rodnina called the deprivation of state awards of figure skaters from Lithuania for participating in the Navka show absurd

Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina praised the actions of the Lithuanian authorities, who deprived figure skaters Margarita Drobyazko and Povilas Vanagas of state awards for participating in Tatiana Navka’s ice show in Sochi. It is reported by Sport24.

She called the actions of foreign leaders senseless. “Every new decision is more and more stupid. How can you treat your own athletes like that? Complete absurdity, ”said Rodnina.

She also noted that Drobyazko and Vanagas need to be supported. “And whether to change citizenship to Russian or not, let them decide for themselves,” Rodnina added.

Earlier it became known that Drobyazko and Vanagas were deprived of state awards. According to the president of the republic, Gitanas Nauseda, the sportsmen’s performances in Russia crossed out all their merits to the country. In 2000, the couple won bronze at the World Championships in ice dancing, for which they were awarded the Knight’s Crosses of the Order of Gediminas.

Drobiazko and Vanagas have represented Lithuania at the Olympics five times. They took the citizenship of the country after the collapse of the USSR.
