Lawyer basketball player Brittney Greiner said she charmed cellmates
Lawyer Alexander Boikov, who represented the interests of the American basketball player Brittney Griner in court, spoke about the relationship of the athlete with her cellmates. This is reported by Moskovsky Komsomolets.
According to the lawyer, the 31-year-old basketball player managed to charm cellmates and guards in the pre-trial detention center. He noted that when the American went to the last meeting, the cellmates expressed their support for her.
On August 4, the Khimki court found Greiner guilty of drug smuggling without intent to sell. A US citizen was sentenced to nine years in a penal colony. As mitigating circumstances, the court took into account the basketball player’s admission of guilt and her sporting achievements.
The arrest and further trial of Greiner caused a public outcry in the United States. Politicians called for the release of the athlete. Also, the legend of the National Basketball Association (NBA) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar considered that the athlete was arrested for political reasons. Greiner’s portrait was featured on the cover of TIME magazine.
Brittney Greiner was detained at Sheremetyevo Airport on February 17 and arrested on March 5. In the luggage, the athletes found several vapes with banned cannabis oil.
