Azpilicueta showed that he was happy at the English club and celebrated the extension of his contract. If he fulfills the new contract, the Spaniard can complete 12 years playing for the London team.
“I am delighted to extend my stay at Chelsea, my home. It has been almost ten years since I arrived so I really feel love for the club and am excited for the new project we have in our hands,” said the captain. “I would like to thank the managers for giving me the opportunity to continue my journey at this amazing club. I look forward to continuing this adventure. I am a very proud captain and I hope we can share many good memories together.”
The Spanish full-back and centre-back joined Chelsea in 2012 and, since then, has become the player with the most cup finals played in the club’s history, with 13 decisions. With the Blues shirt, Azpilicueta won nine titles: FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, Club World CupEuropean Super Cup, two English Championship it’s two European Leagues.
The 476 matches played make Azpilicueta the second foreigner with the most appearances for the English team, behind only Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech. With the renewal, the defender could become the first non-Englishman to complete 500 appearances for Chelsea.
