The head coach of the Russian national gymnastics team Valentina Rodionenko appreciated the disqualification of the Russian gymnast Angelina Simakova. It is reported by TASS.
The specialist stressed that she could not explain the entry of a prohibited substance into the body of an athlete. “When we asked her, she said: “I didn’t take anything.” We cannot distrust her,” Rodionenko said.
The disqualification of the gymnast became known earlier on Thursday, July 21. Traces of furosemide were found in the doping sample of 19-year-old Simakova. According to the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), the athlete will be suspended from participation in competitions for two years. Disqualification is counted from June 2. Simakova is the 2018 European champion in artistic gymnastics. Then she also became the silver medalist of the World Championship.
