The Spaniard Rafael Nadal exercised this Tuesday before the eyes of the All England Club public and with his mind set on the Wimbledon quarterfinal duel against the American Taylor Fritz.
Nadal scheduled an hour and a half training session on one of the private courts at Aorangi Park, to which only players and the press have access, but decided at the last minute to train on court 17 of the tournament, where the public can attend.
Before a large audience, with people lining up to see him, Nadal trained for just over an hour accompanied by Marc López and Francis Roig, as well as his physiotherapist, Rafa Maymó.
Nadal emphasized the forehand down the line, the slice and the crosscourt backhand, to try to disarm Fritz who, in addition to a powerful serve, has a great backhand.
The Spaniard practiced 24 hours after facing Fritz in the Wimbledon quarters, a round he has reached after two irregular duels in the first and second rounds and two solid performances in the third and fourth, in which he has not lost a set.
The match will be played in the second round on center court, after the clash between the Romanian Simona Halep and the American Amanada Anisimova.
It will be the third time in their careers that Fritz and Nadal will face each other, with victory for the man from Manacor in 2020 in the Acapulco final and for the American in the Indian Wells final this year.
The Spaniard qualified for the quarterfinals of the English grass court on Monday by beating Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (8/6).
Nadal, who at 36 is looking for his 23rd Grand Slam title, took two hours and 22 minutes to defeat the 25th in the world, on the center court of the All England Club in London. (D)
