Teryushkov said he was pleased with the criticism of his idea to equate the change of citizenship with treason
Roman Teryushkov, a member of the Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of the State Duma, responded to criticism of his idea to equate the change of sports citizenship with treason. His words are quoted by RB Sport.
Teryushkov stressed that he was pleased with the resonance caused. “These words do not make them more beautiful, they do not elevate them. They trained athletes, stood up for the anthem and honor of the country, represented their state,” he said. The deputy called sport the power of the state in peacetime, which is why athletes should represent their country.
On July 15, Teryushkov, in his Telegram channel, proposed equating the change of sports citizenship with treason. He published the corresponding letter in the Ministry of Sports of Russia.
The idea of the deputy was criticized by the journalist Dmitry Guberniev, the deputy Irina Rodnina, as well as the honored figure skating coach Tatyana Tarasova. The latter called Teryushkov an idiot.
