Four raids on homes allowed the seizure of gasoline, acetone, sodium bisulfate and outboard motors in the Las Peñas parish, in the Eloy Alfaro canton, north of the province of Esmeraldas, early this Friday, July 8.
Agents from the Police Hydrocarbons Unit and Marines raided the houses and found a total of 660 gallons of gasoline, 330 tanks of acetone, 2,500 kilos of sodium bisulfate and 5 engines with the numbers removed.
The ties between Mexican cartels and local gangs increased the murders in Esmeraldas and Sucumbíos
Javier Buitrón, commander of the special zone, estimated that the chemicals seized would be for drug processing and refining. Meanwhile, the motors would have been stolen from artisanal fishermen.
No arrests of people were recorded in these operations.
On Monday of this week, a shipment of one and a half tons of drugs was detected by the Ecuadorian Navy in two vessels that entered from the international maritime zone, on the northern border.
Meanwhile, the Police of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas captured five alleged members of a criminal organization linked to murders and extortions.
Xavier Rosero, police commander of Subzone 2, said that these crimes were committed in the commercial area and rural parishes of the Tsáchila province.
Those arrested are Jipson Z., José G., José Z., Henry N. and Francisco C., who were traveling in a car.
They apprehend three foreign citizens with 206 cell phones who entered irregularly through the northern border
One of the victims of extortion explained that they demanded the payment of between one thousand and five thousand dollars, a situation that motivated him to file the complaint with videos of the alleged criminals.
Rosero will request the creation of a police intelligence unit in this province, where 60 violent deaths have also been recorded between last January and June. (YO)
