Over the weekend, ten people were killed in Guayaquil. Between Saturday and Sunday alone, seven cases were reported, which raises the number of violent deaths in Zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón) to 698. Last year, to date, there were 293 deaths, which shows that there is a increase of 405 cases.

The most recent occurred this Sunday, July 3, in the Nueva Prosperina cooperative and in Flor de Bastión, in the northwest.
The first case occurred around 10:00. According to witnesses, a wounded man went down the hill of the Nueva Prosperina cooperative while he was being followed by an armed individual. Seconds after seeing the two pass by on the street, the victim was shot when he was going down a ditch in the area.
“Although he wanted to escape, he couldn’t: the assassin finished him off from above and he was left in the ditch,” commented a resident who preferred not to be identified.

Several blood stains remained as a trace of the route by which the victim tried to escape, which no neighbor recognized.
At 13:30 another case was reported in block 6 of Flor de Bastión. There a man received six bullet wounds.
Special units arrived at the site to remove the body.
Hours before, at dawn, another violent event was reported: in the Balerio Estacio cooperative, two people were shot to death.
In addition, a man was shot in the suburb of Guayaquil while trying to capture a thief who attacked a store on 27th and H. The victim was taken to the Abel Gilbert hospital, where he is recovering.
On the other hand, on Saturday there were three more murders. The first occurred at dawn in Guasmo, in the sector known as Punta Arrecha. There, a 25-year-old man was surprised while walking in the area.
At least six bullets hit him and, although he was taken to a health home, only his death was confirmed at the scene.
The Police indicated that 55 ballistic signs were found at the scene, some from a rifle.
At 08:00 another case was reported in La Fragata, also in the south of Guayaquil. The victim would have been beaten to death inside a building in the area that allegedly functions as a clandestine rehabilitation center.

The deceased patient would have tried to escape that morning and was recaptured, according to neighbors. His body was taken without identification to the morgue.
Shortly after, at 10:00, the discovery of a body in the “death canal” was reported.
Residents of the sector said they had found the body of a woman in the waters of the canal. According to witnesses, she was handcuffed. The police carried out the removal of the body, but no official information on this case has yet been released, nor has the identity of the murdered woman been revealed.
On Friday there were three more cases in Guayaquil
In Malvinas Sur, on the Perimetral road, a man who resisted an assault was shot on Friday morning. The victim was waiting for the bus when she was approached by the robbers.
The man, identified as Adrián Carvajal, 29, was shot in the chest and, although he was transferred to the Guasmo hospital, only his death was confirmed on site.
Hours later, in the cooperative 5 de Diciembre, on Trinitaria Island, another murder was recorded.
Michael Loor Mera, 21, was shot and taken to the Guasmo hospital. There, the lifting of the body was carried out. The police said that the residents did not allow the entry of Criminalistics agents to the area to collect evidence; however, a suspect in the crime was arrested soon after.
The victim had several tattoos alluding to criminal organizations that operate in the sector, so the Police are investigating whether the young man was victimized due to a dispute over territory.

In the sector of the Juan Montalvo cooperative another crime occurred on Friday night. Adolfo Roche Rivas was shot near the sector market. (YO)
