Dollars, Colombian pesos, weapons and ammunition were seized by a military patrol that was conducting a reconnaissance in the Nuevo Mataje sector, in the San Lorenzo canton, on the northern border of Esmeraldas.

The money and weapons would have been abandoned by a group of people, apparently with a suspicious attitude; when observing the soldiers, they fled from the place. The incident was reported this Saturday, July 2, to the Esmeraldas Joint Task Force. There were no arrests.

Of what was seized, 21 bills of $10, 44 of $20 and 68 bills of 50,000 Colombian pesos were reported; in addition to two pistol-type firearms (Pietro Beretta brand), cartridge, feeders and mobile terminals.

After carrying out the legal procedure with personnel from the San Lorenzo National Police, several citizens would have tried, in a hostile attitude, to demand the return of the money at the Mataje military detachment, a situation that was controlled by the uniformed officers on duty.

Another group of soldiers displaced near the town of Mataje would also have received threats with detonations of firearms, but no victims have been recorded.

The agents stopped the march of a truck with alterations in its structure, which was moving on the San Lorenzo-Santo Domingo route. When inspected, it was transporting a significant amount of substances subject to control, as indicated. (YO)
