A two-month-old baby died Thursday after being attacked with a knife by his own mother.

The aggressor is a 25-year-old girl who, according to her family, would have 75% intellectual and hearing disabilities. She stabbed her baby in her abdomen, police said.
The event was recorded at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Santiago de Guayaquil cooperative, at the foot of the Perimetral road, in the Esteros district.

The grandmother told investigators that she had entered the bathroom and heard her newborn grandson cry. Coming out of it, seconds later, she found her daughter with the knife in her hands. She had made some cuts in the baby’s abdomen until her intestines were exposed.
The grandmother took the child in her arms and took him to the Guasmo hospital. There they managed to stabilize him and transferred him to the Francisco de Ycaza Bustamante hospital, but he did not resist and died shortly after.

Lieutenant Colonel Álex Ganchala, deputy chief of the district, explained that the infant’s mother is in custody, that the case is in charge of the Dinapen as it is a murdered minor.
In addition, he said that the woman told the first uniformed men who arrived at her house that “she had seen on television that this was done to babies to get the devil out of them.” (YO)
