More than a dozen houses were under water after river overflows in Zamora Chinchipe

Several houses woke up flooded on the morning of this Monday, July 4, in the place called Chamico, in the Cumbaratza parish of the Zamora canton.

The constant and large amount of rains that have occurred in the Amazon sector throughout the weekend have triggered the flooding and overflow of the Zamora and Yacuambi rivers.

More than a dozen houses woke up flooded by the overflow of the rivers, whose affected inhabitants asked the relief agencies to go to the place to provide help.

The Amazonian trunk has also been interrupted by more than one landslide that has occurred on the Loja-Zamora road, which hinders vehicular traffic.

The Zamora River has flooded sectors such as Namírez, Chamico and surrounding areas; while the Yacuambi river overflowed in the sectors of Guaguayme Bajo, El Progreso and others.

There is concern in the inhabitants of the eastern sector, especially in those who live on the banks of the rivers, in the Centinela del Cóndor, Yantzaza and El Pangui cantons, taking into account that in these places the two aforementioned rivers join at the height of the La Saquea sector.

Personnel from the Fire Department began to arrive in the affected sectors on Monday morning to try to evacuate those affected and provide immediate assistance. (YO)
