A homeless man was murdered in the historic center of the city. This is the fifth violent death that has occurred in the canton so far in 2022 and, according to the authorities, none have been resolved or proceedings have been initiated against alleged perpetrators.
The death of this man who lived on the streets occurred in the lower part of the Municipality of Cuenca. There are two versions of the issue: one issued from the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office and another from the National Police.
In the first institution mentioned, Leonardo Amoroso, prosecutor of Azuay, reported that everything originated, apparently, from a street fight in which the victim received several stab wounds in the body with a knife.

The death of Marco Peña Goyes did not occur there, but in the ambulance that was taking him to the Vicente Corral Moscoso public hospital.
But Police Colonel Walter Villarroel, head of the Azuay Subzone, gave another version. “Apparently, the perpetrator, at the time still has to be investigated, it is presumed that he was under the influence of alcohol, he proceeds to make a defense against a possible assault,” he said.
This situation, which occurred in the early hours of May 1, led to the opening of legal proceedings against Eddy Honoraro CT for the alleged crime of homicide.
During the flagrante delicto classification hearing, the judge in charge of the case decided that he presented sufficient elements of roots to give him alternative measures instead of preventive detention. He must appear every 24 hours before the respective court.
With this, there are already five violent deaths that have occurred in Cuenca: four occurred in the cantonal capital and one in the rural parish of Molleturo.

Regarding the outcome of these deaths, Leonardo Amoroso explained: “Unfortunately, due to the conditions sometimes of the cameras, which do not allow the identification of the people who committed these acts, at the moment we are under investigation without yet having an answer.”
The zonal coordinator 6 of the Ministry of Government, José Jara, said that in the next few hours he will hold a meeting to clarify the situation and give a response to the population. (I)
