To prevent an arrest, they shot at the UPC of Socio Vivienda 2

The Community Police Unit (UPC) of Socio Vivienda 2 was attacked by bullets this Wednesday afternoon after a police operation in the sector.

Marcelo Cortez, deputy commander of zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón), explained that it all started with the arrest of a man with a motorcycle reported stolen.

The police indicated that during this procedure they shot at those informed from some homes and that two homes were searched in flagrante delicto where two more armed subjects were found.

Weapons, feeders and drugs were found in the buildings. When the three detainees were being transferred to the UPC, two men on motorcycles fired at the checkpoint.

At least 27 9mm shell casings were found in the surroundings by Criminalistics agents. The bullets went through the glass, remained on the front and side walls. In addition, the traces of the impacts were left on the metal fences. No police officer was injured in the attack.

Cortez mentioned that the subjects who shot have not yet been identified, however, the three detainees were initially transferred to the Model Barracks Prosecutor’s Office and that it be investigated who is the man who was on the stolen motorcycle, if he belongs to a gang and what motivated them to want to prevent his capture.

In that sector of northwestern Guayaquil, between January and March, 10 people gave up their homes for fear of the violence in the area.

The police did not reveal the identity of the detainees. (I)
