Infantry Major Miguel Saavedra, head of the military’s outer fence at the Sierra Centro Norte Cotopaxi Regional Social Rehabilitation Center (CRS), confirmed that between dawn and afternoon this Saturday, persons deprived of liberty (PPL) from prisons entered from Guayaquil and Esmeraldas.
He mentioned that 22 inmates from the Litoral Penitentiary arrived at the penitentiary at dawn, while another 18 inmates arrived at 3:00 p.m., among whom there were also prisoners from Esmeraldas.
17 of the 18 detainees were transferred to prisons in Guayaquil, Quito and Cotopaxi for links with the Los Tiguerones criminal gang
Saavedra maintained that the uniformed officers acted as they do with all the PPL that enter the Cotopaxi prison, that they are in charge of the first security filter, that they make the respective registry so that none of the objects that are prohibited are introduced.
And he added that the review is recorded in the registry in the corresponding logs and immediately falls under the jurisdiction of the National Comprehensive Care Service for Adults Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI).
Family of soccer player Gabriel Cortez concerned about transfer to Guayaquil prison; a brother-in-law of his was murdered during a massacre at the penitentiary
He indicated that for security reasons he could not report in detail which inmates are the ones who arrived in Latacunga.
However, he said that the transfer is related to the operations carried out on Friday in Guayas, ManabĂ and Esmeraldas, which allowed the apprehension of 18 people, 17 received preventive detention orders, including soccer player Gabriel Cortez and three active-duty policemen. (I)
