Russia’s special operation in Ukraine will end as soon as the goals are achieved. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with Al Arabiya TV channel, commenting on the possibility of the operation being completed by May 9.

“It will be completed as soon as the goals that I have already described to you are implemented and achieved,” the minister said.

Lavrov also said that any shipment of weapons to Kyiv from abroad, located on the territory of Ukraine, is a legitimate target for the Russian Federation.

As for the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations, they, according to Lavrov, stalled due to the inconsistent position of Kyiv. “If they were honest negotiators, if they were committed to what they agreed on step by step, we could make significant progress in these negotiations,” the Russian minister said, adding that they “always want to play games.”

Sergei Lavrov also said that Russia does not use mercenaries in Ukraine. When asked why Turkey closed its airspace, the minister stressed that Moscow and Ankara cooperate on many issues and understand each other “on all of them” as partners who respect each other’s interests.

Separately, Lavrov touched upon the risk of starting a nuclear war. According to him, Moscow has long pointed out that there can be no winners in a nuclear war, Russia does not play with such concepts, unlike the authorities of Ukraine and Poland. “We are not playing with the words “nuclear war” We never play with such dangerous concepts. That’s what I said then. We must all be committed to the statements of the “nuclear five” – there should never be a nuclear war,” Lavrov said. He added that Western countries should “discipline” the authorities of Ukraine and Poland, who, according to him, see no danger in “playing with these words.”

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. The goals of the special operation were called “demilitarization and denazification” of Ukraine.
