Short-cycle crops, farmyard animals and commercial establishments were affected by the overflow of the Cayapas, Santiago and Teaone rivers, in the province of Esmeraldas.

In the town of Atahualpa, in the Eloy Alfaro canton, in the north, the emergency occurred at dawn on Wednesday. Gilberto Añapa, owner of a carpentry workshop, reported that the water of the Cayapas River rose suddenly without giving him time to collect his work tools and wood works.

Gustavo Ortiz, vice president of the parish GAD of Atahualpa, carried out the collection of information on the damage caused by the rising of the rivers due to the heavy rains in the area and in the headwaters of these tributaries.

These populations can only be entered by canoe or boat from Borbón or Limones, between three and five hours of travel.

The inhabitants of the Maldonado parish also reported flooding in their homes and the boardwalk of this population due to the rising of the Santiago River.
