Binance, the largest crypto exchange in terms of trading volume, announced that over the past two months it has blocked the accounts of the daughter of the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, Elizaveta, as well as the stepdaughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Polina Kovaleva. According to Bloomberg, company representatives explained the restrictions by following international sanctions in response to the situation around Ukraine.
In addition, the account of Kirill Malofeev, the son of businessman Konstantin Malofeev, was blocked. The US Treasury imposed sanctions on Malofeev Jr. on April 20.
As specified, the exchange continues to check to find more users under sanctions.
Chagri Poyraz, head of the sanctions division of Binance, said that Elizaveta Peskova’s account was blocked on March 3, when she tried to access the exchange through a third-party broker. On March 11, it became known about the introduction of US sanctions against Peskov’s wife, Tatyana Navka, and his adult children.
Polina Kovaleva’s cryptocurrency account on Binance was blocked on March 24.
On April 21, Binance restricted access to its services for users who live in Russia and have assets worth more than 10 thousand euros in total. Only the withdrawal function is available to such clients.
