The transfer of five alleged gang leaders from the Men’s Rehabilitation Center No. 2 Esmeraldas caused an incident that left twelve prisoners with minor injuries.
The protest occurred after 10:00 this Friday, when armored vehicles entered to transfer the five prisoners to a judicial hearing and then to a maximum security prison, possibly to Guayaquil.
Jaime BuitrĂ³n, commander of Subzone 8, said that these leaders, one of them (a) Commander 06 Lala, presumably directed and ordered from the prison to commit hired assassins in the capital of Esmeralda.
After neutralizing the revolt, three ambulances were allowed to enter to assist those affected who did not present serious injuries, BuitrĂ³n assured.
“Not only do we believe (that soccer player) has participation, but he was the one who ordered and received information regarding the people who were deprived of life by the assassins,” says minister on the capture of Gabriel Cortez
The riots in the Esmeraldas prison were recorded after learning of the arrest of 18 people with apparent links to the Los Tiguerones gang. Among the detainees are the soccer player Gabriel Cortez and three active policemen.
At the press conference in Esmeraldas, the Minister of the Interior, Patricio Carrillo, said that search operations had been arranged in the prison after these arrests and the leaders of this gang will be placed in a special disciplinary regime.
While relatives of the inmates who were waiting to enter during visiting hours said they had heard detonations inside the prison.
They arrest 18 people who would be linked to the Los Tiguerones gang; there is a soccer player and three police officers among those arrested
In the afternoon, it was offered to restore the visits, once the Police and Armed Forces consider that there is nothing new.
Vehicular traffic outside the prison was restricted for a period of two hours. (I)
