After 29 raids carried out in Esmeraldas, Guayas and Manabí, the Police arrested 18 people who would be linked to a criminal organization.
Among those apprehended are three police officers and a professional soccer player. This is Gabriel Cortez, who is active in Barcelona.
The athlete was detained for investigations for his alleged relationship with the criminal organization called Los Tiguerones, one of the criminal groups operating in the country.
The soccer player involved was arrested in Guayaquil and will be transferred to Esmeraldas, as will the police officers who were captured. Two of the police officers were arrested in Esmeraldas and one in Manabí.
Within the Poseidon operation, 16 weapons, 29 ammunition, 3 vehicles and drugs were seized.
More than 20 tax agents from the provinces of Pichincha, Cotopaxi, Santo Domingo de Los Tsáchilas, Manabí and Guayas participated in the operations.

The Prosecutor’s Office, on its Twitter account, announced that an investigation was opened for the crime of organized crime.

Patricio Carrillo, Minister of the Interior, mentioned that the operations also seized 16 firearms, which will be examined by Criminalistics to determine if they match the evidence collected in a crime.
At 10:30, the National Police will give a press conference in Esmeraldas to provide more details of the police operation.
This is the second important capture this week, since on Thursday more than 20 alleged members of the Chone Killers gang were arrested, another criminal organization that operates in Guayas.
Part of those arrested from the Chone Killers were linked to the placement of explosives in the parking lot of the Albán Borja Judicial Unit, where requests for habeas corpus of one of the leaders of Los Choneros. (I)
