On the afternoon of this Thursday, April 21, the National Police carried out the incineration of 9.3 tons of drugs seized in the operations. This shipment was transferred from Guayaquil and arrived at the incinerator around noon.
The Minister of the Interior, Patrick Carrillo, pointed out that 37 tons had already been destroyed previously. “Together with these 9.3 we are completing 46 incinerated tons. we have left still pending around 150 tons at the national level, but we will continue smoothly with this procedure, “he said.
He also emphasized that the current Government foresees a project to build a specialized center for drug destruction seized in the operations. “The drug It is seized on the Pacific coast, in the vicinity of ports and the border, but we have to move them to the Sierra, where the ovens are. We want to have a furnace there and the project will go into construction by virtue of all the amount that we are seizing today,” he added.
Regarding the incidents in the temporary collection centers, he stressed that the three tons that were stolen in the province of Napo They were recovered by the police. That is what he pointed out they don’t want it to happen again and therefore discreetly manage the places and dates of transportation for its destruction.

John Ponce, National Director of Anti-Drug Investigation, indicated that the 9.3 tons that were incinerated were the product of a police intervention on January 17, 2022. The estimated value of these destroyed blocks would be close to $18.8 million in Ecuador. However, in Europe, where the drug was destined, the value would rise to $340 million, he said.
